Myself and I on this lonely trail
An end to this road not in sight
My worn body that’s grown so frail
My will soon to give up this fight.
From dawn to dusk as a sudden gale
Gives me a shiver that is more than slight
My breaths are short and my skin turning pale
Yet I press forward into the night.
With thoughts of a pleasant uncertainty
The outcome expected to be bright
High hopes shot down by reality
A heavy fall from such a great height.
Torn, battered, broken, tattered
Emotions, spirit, and heart all alike
Feeling as if this never mattered
Beginning to fade, my glimmer of light
Myself and I on this only trail
The end to this road was never in sight
Countless tears shed from a face so frail
My will’s given up this useless fight.
